C and C++ Development Environment
A development environment provides the tools required to write, compile, execute, and debug C and C++ programs.
Important Components
- Text Editor: Used to write source code.
- Compiler: Converts source code into machine-readable code.
- Linker: Combines object files and libraries to create an executable program.
- Debugger: Helps identify and fix programming errors.
- IDE: Provides an integrated environment for writing and managing programs.
Common C/C++ Compilers
- GCC
- G++
- Clang
- Microsoft Visual C++
Common IDEs and Editors
- Visual Studio Code
- Visual Studio
- Code::Blocks
- Dev-C++
- CLion
Compilation Process
- Write the source program.
- Preprocess the source code.
- Compile the source code.
- Generate object code.
- Link required libraries.
- Create the executable program.
- Run the program.
Example Compilation
gcc program.c -o program
./program
For C++ programs, the G++ compiler can be used:
g++ program.cpp -o program
./program
